EC & The A's bootlegs

topic posted Thu, June 2, 2005 - 8:07 AM by  Kevin
Greetings all, I just joined the tribe. I have a few EC & The A's bootlegs recorded in the late 70's. Including the famous El Mocambo show in Toronto. I'd offer to make copies but my stylus just broke. Soon as I get a replacement, I'll send a nother post. Any interest?

I have 4 albums that vary in quality the best two being the ElMocambo show recorded 3/6/78 and a double lp called 50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong, recorded at 2 clubs in '77. These two lp's simply put are incredible. Elvis at his angry young man best! I don't have a cd recorder and like I said my stylus broke, but I may have a friend who can make copies for me. I'll keep you posted.

The El Mocambo show was officially released as part of a 4 CD box set called 2 1/2 years. The other CDs in the set were My Aim is True, This Year's Model and Armed Forces. This set is long deleted. The 50,000,000 fans live material has never had an official release, mostly due to the poor sound quality. It is (I think) the only place you'll find EC's version of Ian Dury's Roadette Song.

There are lots and lots of EC bootlegs out there. For a very comprehensive list, go to John E's Elvis Costello homepage here:

Very very few people trade tapes or vinyl any more. Most of this material has been copied to CDR or is available to download on sites like Dimeadozen.

I gotta friend to burn some homemade cassettes from early 80's radio onto cd for me. I think it includes stuff from Punch the Clock, Goodbye Cruel World and priors. Mostly live in Austin w/th T.K.O. horns.. I also got a killer Pearl Harbor and the Explosions from KSAN, 1979. Not sure if yer familiar but besides most of what was on their album it also Has fun covers such as Two Left Feet (i got nothin' left but two left feet). and Ron Wood's "I can feel the fire." Also the rockin' billy style "Black slacks."

I am becoming technologically more current so let me know, perhaps I can snail mail some of this...

I have a soundboard of EC playing at the Sweet water in Mill Valley, CA (place holds no more than 300). The guest list is includes Nick Lowe, and Jerry Garcia among others. WAY Cool.
